Affordable Home Decor Tips – Using Artwork to Create a Display

Well arranged artwork, paintings, prints or photos can add a stylish finishing touch to any room decor. A collection of frames grouped together as a featured display is a look that can fit easily into any home decoration theme, but to avoid your wall looking too cluttered, choose frames of a similar design and size. To achieve a sense of symmetry, position each piece of artwork so that it hangs in line vertically and horizontally with the others. Also make sure that each half of the arrangement mirrors the other. Choose a wall color that will show of the pictures. A pale or neutral wall will help to offset colorful prints. Break up a group of pictures by adding an unusual mirror to add a different decorative touch.

Alternatively to achieve a more relaxed theme, a random grouping of different prints and frames, can look lovely in a country-style home. It is often possible to pick up framed prints or artwork at thrift stores or auctions very cheaply when affordable home decor is important. Paint miss-matched frames with gold paint and then rub down lightly for a shabby chic look – just remember to put masking tape inside the frame so that you don’t get any paint on the glass.

These wall-hung displays of artwork or photographs look good on any wall, but unless you have a very large room restrict the number of pictures to six or eight, any more may just look messy. Instead of artwork you could hang an arrangement of photographs in attractive frames. Black and white or sepia toned photos look particularly effective in vintage or antique frames. A formal arrangement will lend a smart feel to a room. This works wonderfully as a stairway gallery. You could unify the look by using matching colored mats inside the frames.

A large artwork can create an amazing focal point in any space and can give you inspiration for your decorating scheme. The first thing to think about before hanging such a major piece is to make sure there is enough wall space around the frame without it being crowded by anything else on the wall. A simple d├ęcor solution is to pick out key colors and shades in the painting and introduce them into the room with matching pillows and curtains and a coordinating color for the walls.

A single large piece of artwork will look stunning above a mantel or above a sofa. Keep the wall clear of any other pictures or you will distract from the painting and don’t have too many accessories. If the artwork is too overbearing or the colors clash with your existing furniture, you will either have to change your furnishings or choose a different room to display the picture.

In an area where there isn’t a lot of spare wall space you can use shelves for a simple and quick display that doesn’t involve picture hooks. A mix of family photos, memorabilia and artwork can work well together. This is a useful look for a less formal room, such as a home office or cozy family space.
