Silversmith’s Dwelling in Ste. Gen identified | Heritage

A Ste. Genevieve historic house has been regarded by the Missouri Alliance for Historic Preservation.

The Antoine Oneille Dwelling, also acknowledged as the Silversmith’s Dwelling, was offered with the 2020 McReynolds Award in recognition for the renovation of the residence. The making is owned by the First Presbyterian Church and located at 150 S. Most important Road.

Pastor Steve Matthews, Rick Schaefer and Becky Millinger obtained the award on behalf of the church. Millinger has investigated the record of the property and talked about the renovation.

“Antoine Oneille, a French-Canadian, was born in Quebec about 1769,” she reported. “He crafted extremely fantastic silver and crafted silver for trade, which was not as perfectly accomplished.”

After residing in Detroit, Michigan and Vincennes, Indiana, Oneille eventually settled in Ste. Genevieve and produced trade silver for Illinois politician and businessman Pierre Menard.
