Cleveland’s Karamu Household gets $1 million grant for renovations

CLEVELAND — Cleveland’s Karamu Household, the country’s oldest Black creating theatre, obtained a $1 million grant to full renovations to the historic venue.

The Bank of America Charitable Basis awarded Karamu Dwelling the million-greenback grant, and the theatre strategies to use the money to finish the 3rd period of its campus renovation, which includes a theatre renovation, a new outside phase, a total-support bistro with a patio, ADA enhancements and a facelift of the streetscape.

Renovations in the 3rd section have been originally planned to be accomplished in January of this year, but they had been set on maintain because of to COVID-19, which also compelled Karamu Residence to shift to virtual performances.

The theatre plans to return to dwell performances in October 2021 and also ideas to resume its live arts education and learning and group programming.
