ANN ARBOR, MI – The second major overhaul of a mid-century modern home in the Ann Arbor Hills neighborhood has helped give it a “modern twist” as it starts the next chapter in its evolution.
The 2,883-square-foot home, located at 2671 Bedford Road and listed for $1.02 million, was built in 1951 before large windows and other architectural upgrades were added in 1974.
The latest remodel in 2019 helped transform the home’s lower level into finished space, adding three new bathrooms and two bedrooms to the residence, which is MLive’s House of the Week. House that range in architectural style and price are featured every Wednesday.

“The biggest thing when you’re inside is you kind of feel like you’re up north in a see-through cabin,” said Avery Evenson, who is co-listing agent for the home along with Megan Mazurek from The Charles Reinhart Company.
That’s the feel the classic mid-century modern home gives off, Evenson said, pointing to the clean lines and symmetrical architecture, two-story foyer with floor-to-ceiling windows and a recently overhauled four-season room with a sliding garage door opening the room up to an outdoor patio.
The renovation opened up the main living level, which features a chef’s kitchen with a quartz countertop island and new stainless steel appliances, including an industrial fridge and separate butler’s pantry.
“Before the renovation, the kitchen was just a skinny, galley kitchen,” Evenson said. “The builders wanted it to be an open concept so they completely took the wall out, renovated the entire kitchen and added this huge, beautiful island so that it’s more of a gathering space.”
Overlooking it all is a front living room with views from all angles, equipped with a wood-burning fireplace with a gas hook-up.
The formal dining room leads to the indoor/outdoor four-season room or greenhouse featuring a fireplace, slate tile and transparent garage door.
“They completely dry-walled, insulated and added a garage door so in the summer, fall and spring, you can pull it up and entertain inside and outside,” Evenson said.
The master suite features a balcony, two closets, double vanities and wet room featuring two shower heads and a soaking tub.
A second main level bedroom includes a brand new full bathroom.
The first floor features a bedroom, brand new full bathroom, laundry and mud room, wine cellar and a fourth bedroom – surrounded entirely by glass panels – that also can serve as an office.
“The builder’s idea behind the (office) was with COVID times everyone is working from home and they want a nice office,” Evenson said. “It’s private sound-wise, but it still has that view.”
